I'm talking off the top of my head, but I'm wondering if there would be sufficient interest in the group to run one of Randy Fromm's arcade school courses here.

Cost $699 + $59 for the textbook.
5 days of classes

I'd need about 40 students.

It sounds like fun but when would the 5 days be?

It's going to be tough to schedule I would think.

IT's something that has crossed my mind too.  I'd be up for it, depending on timing, but I was thinking at some point in just investing in the video course myself.

It would likely be something I'd arrange for July or August, and run it out of my high school.

Sounds like a cool idea,
but I'd be hard-pressed to leave the wife alone with 3 small kids for a full week.

And the 3-hr drive from Ottawa to Peterborough doesn't exactly make it a daily commute...

Still, something worth considering...

Steph

MUCH cheaper to buy his kit online. The kit contains like 10+ DVD's (plus the book) which are videos of his classes (same classes he gives in person). Plus when you buy the kit you can watch the videos over and over again as many times as you want.

Sadly there is a 99.95% chance that you will not find anywhere near 40 people here to spend the money and time (5 days is way too long) just to attend his classes. He is very good at it (I do have his kit), but is not worth it in my opinion. Kit costs only $250US compared to the $750US+ for him in person (and you don't get the DVD's if you take the course from him in person).

Buy the kit instead: http://randyfromm.com/shopping/

Yup I think so. There is a TON of information in them. You can skip the basic electronics stuff if you want, but even that is well taught. The videos on basic electronics were better taught then the courses I took in college! When I first got the DVD's and started watching them, I thought I wasted my money. Lets just say the production value isn't very good (videos of him teaching classes). But after like 10 minutes you forget that and realize, wow, this guy knows his stuff and really knows how to teach it well. Lets just say that before I watched the DVD on repairing monitors, I was a little scared about how to work on them, or even pick them up. Now I have no problems at all and can totally rebuild a monitor in no time. And whats better is that with the DVD's you can go back and re-watch it again and again if you didn't understand something or forgot it

The main book is also very very good. There is so much useful info in there I would say it is the most valuable/useful book when it comes to repairing or working on machines in the hobby. Guy also knows his stuff on repairing pins too, but the course is mainly on vids.

Worth the money if you can afford it (great Christmas gift that you can ask the wife/girlfriend/etc to get you).

And sorry but NO, I will not copy the DVD's for anyone, so don't ask. I put out my good money for them, and if you think you need them, then so should you. Sorry I had to say that but I have been asked before.
