When I was cleaning the backglass on G n' R, I wanted to clean the front of the translite. I removed the trim and started slowly pulling the translite away. It is stuck. I immediately stopped and ordered a secondary translite.
Now this one isn't damaged at all but it has a look that looks like water in spots in between the glass. It isn't water but I believe it is points where it has adhered itself to the glass. If I wasn't so damn picky I would have just lived with it but it bugs me.
Anyway what to do?
A. Should I try some method of removing it through heat or steam etc? I have never had one stick like this before.
B. If I can't remove it intact, should I remove it, destroying the existing one for the purpose of reusing the glass?
C. Should I buy new glass and build an entire new one so this can be used as wall art for someone?
D. Is this a DE thing and the new one will end up sticking exactly the same way and I should give up before even starting?
E. Is G n' R translite so ugly that it should be replaced with one from a Shadow or IJ4?

If you weren't so anal about these things I would say leave it alone, but I know you will look for a replacement. Whatever you try to do to free it will probably damage it. Try putting it in sunlight to heat it up for a while and see if it releases, if not, you are screwed.
This is what happens when you buy a pin that is not a Williams/Bally. I am sure that when you buy your first Stern, there will be similar incidents.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

Yes, now I know first hand. I have the replacement already. Maybe I will sell it with the machine down the road and yes I said sell the machine. It's interesting but in the end I am a Williams/Bally die hard.
Differences though between games.
A. Why does the pf hinge at a point that makes the pf heavy as hell to pivot? B. Why does the pf rail system just simply suck a**? C. Why does the translite stick? D. Why does the attract mode (which I never have on anyway) not play GnR music. I mean common' have you guys ever heard of advertising? E. Why put a spring on the lockdown bar release? Is it to see your operators bent over like a dog fn' a football when they work on it?
I could go on and on.... most of it relates to design and not gameplay which is probably the more important factor, but still.

F. Why do you go through all the hassle with a GNR when you say that you hate Sterns? DE and Segas are Sterns...
To answer all of those questions, it is simply different. This is an age-old discussion that seems to be perpetuated by the die-hard WPC fans. Sure, DE have their weaknesses VS WPC pins, but DE/Sega/Stern have their strong points VS Williams as well. I have never heard anyone with a Stern pin complain that the board system is too complicated or too different. DE took what was working for Williams (System 11) and made some improvements down the line. I don't hear the same coming from WPC owners, who always complain about hard-to-find, if not impossible-to-find parts.
I also find many DE/Sega/Stern titles quite fun to play, and quite challenging. In many cases even more so than most WPC titles, which are not all that great. As much as there are Baywatches and LW3s and Roller Coaster Tycoons, there are Dirty Harrys and Popeyes and Hurricanes and SWE1s, which are not the greatest of titles either, but have their fan base.
Oh... and I also thought that the spring was annoying on the lockdown bar mechanism... until one day I slammed the door on an old Stern and bent the handle, as well as twist the coindoor a bit. I then didn't find the spring on my TFTC so bad...
D. Why does the attract mode (which I never have on anyway) not play GnR music. I mean common' have you guys ever heard of advertising?
i hazard a guess that DE/Stern couldn't afford the liscence. In attract mode, the pin would behave like a radio blaring out GNR tunes all day (and the band and all their liscening agents/managers would need their cut of the action each time a song was played just like a radio station). thus why the song samples are limited to the game play.
whereas a game like TZ, they have a liscence for golden earing but it's not the actual recording itself (thus cheaper liscence). and they can use it in/out attract mode as well.

A. If you have a problem with that you should workout more... B. 'cause Williams had a patent on their design! Actually I like how you can easily remove the playfield on DE games. C. 'cause it sucks. D. No DE game has attract mode music. Most have attract mode sounds if you turn them on in the settings. E. Takes the lever out of the way to close the door - actually a very good design. Remove the spring if it bothers you.

Nah that's not the issue, although I was thinking of taking it up to my farm, propping it open, putting some honey inside and using it to catch bears. It's dangerous is all I am saying.
