Going back to our original discussion about the league, it was suggested that we wind up the first "season" by the end of June. So far we've had 4 meetings. Maybe there should be one more in May, followed by "playoffs" of some kind in June?
Doug has offered to host again, he currently has 4 machines. I might be ready to host with 4 or 5 machines by the end of May. And medvet has mentioned setting up her system 11s again, woohoo!
Thoughts?

I can toss my house into the hat for either last meeting or playoff meeting. I just need to check my work schedule. I would assume maybe a Sat afternoon/evening for me. Maybe do the league meet first and then extend it into a mini meeting after to get the last of the pinball year playing in before summer break.
I have a couple of new games to try out also....
If anybody else new would like to host also, no problem. I can still just do a mini meeting for fun.
I can host too if someone were willing to help me repair my SMDM. I'm willing to pay if need be.

My place is still a mess. I'll be ready for hosting next season for sure. Just not ready this year.
John, give Workingpins, aka Geoff, a call if you want to get your SMDM working. I have always found his prices fair and reasonable. Plus he's a great guy and you can chat pinball I know nothing about the early SS or I'd offer to help.

I have, but he kindly informed me that he's done doing 'crimping'. I can understand. It's the one thing I hate doing and would rather pay someone else to do. I'm just rubbish at it!

Heck - crimping's easy - if you have those parts and that's all you want done, I can do it...
...as for diagnosing issues - I'm no good at that yet....
Deal! When are ya available?

Thanks for the offer but I don't want to have to bring the machine out of my basement for what should be a five minute job. Doug has offered to help next week, hopefully that's all I need.

Depending on how many pins which need to be replaced, the technique used (crimped AND soldered?), proper tools, and the quality of the work, this could take up to a couple of hours actually. Yes only a few minutes if only one or two pins to replace... But replace 50 and.....
Re-pinning large connectors is very tedious... But rewarding after the work is done ! I have done enough to know

Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, 1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others. Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!

5 minutes? Good luck. Changing header pins along with the connector terminals is recommended.
This is for a new GPE rectifier board. I hope I don't have to replace the header pins already!
All that remains is the 20 pin J3 connector. So ya, maybe not 5 minutes, I was being a bit optimistic.

I, too, would be interested in joining the pinball league. My basement is being worked on and should be done in July. I could offer up my place for next season. Maybe by then I will have more than 3 pins.
If a trifurcon pin is properly crimped, there is NO need to solder the connecting wire to the terminal pin. The only positive aspect of soldering a properly crimped terminal pin is the "wire pull out force" goes up. Current ratings do not go up with a soldered pin compared to a properly crimped-only pin (that information is directly from a Molex technical advisor who I talked with on the phone).
For me the order I did was:
tin wire
crimp wire
add flux
solder crimp joint (adding very little new solder)
Is that the right oder?
I'll try to move this crimping stuff to a tips / how-to thread...
So........is it a meeting in May and June or just one more? I'm picking up a new toy Sunday and doing some major reorganizing of games over the next few weekends so I can host either the last two weeks of May or mid June.
Doug: pick whether you want May or June and I'll take the other unless somebody else wants to volunteer.
My vote is for one more meeting in May, then playoffs at medvet's in June. There is still a slim possibility that I'll be able to host in May. But unfortunately one of the flipper coils on Centaur died yesterday and I don't have a spare.
Playable Now: Centaur II, Doctor Who, High Speed. Playable Soon: Breakshot, Sorcerer Later: Flash, Genie, Seawitch Fondly remembered: Firepower
Then I'll do May. Again its a small collection, but enough for a little friendly competition. I don't think any of my early SS games will make for a Star Gazer WTB frenzy, unless I bring out the Aqvavit
PS - My Sinbad scores are getting much better!
PSS - I ask Jen for a date on Mother's Week Day, so in the interim. Any good / bad dates/times for anyone? Next weekend is the long weekend so it's likely not a good choice - leaving:
Saturday May 23 - Sorry this day is busy @ our place Sunday May 24 Saturday May 30 Sunday May 31
Sounds good. I'll do mid to late June. Just have to check work and Seb's schedule with sports and then I'll pick a Saturday. We can make the playoffs in the late afternoon and then open the evening to a small MAACA meeting.

Pinball Party Time!! ME
Can't wait! I should be all settled by then. Now to talk the wife into coming so I can PROVE to her that girls like pinball! I am trying my best to get her hooked.

I plan to make it out for an event at some time, figure the playoffs might be good, but I won't be comming on May 31st for sure as I'll be in California on my way to Las Vegas at that point.
I was thinking I might want to show up for the playoffs.
And what do you mean by TOPL points? I think you are confusing TOPL with the IFPA, they run http://www.pinballrankings.com
To qualify for IFPA points all you have to do is run an open tournament pretty much, just shoot Josh a message over on the website he will get back to you pretty quick with any details you might need, he is a nice guy as well.
On the messages above, we are still keeping this league thing based on the "fun" factor right? Or are we about to be asked to fork out money to participate in the playoffs? Don't get me wrong, I'm good to fork out a few bucks, we should at least get a trophy .
I'm in for May 31st as well. Doug: You better keep practicing on that Sinbad, I'm coming to getcha!

Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.
I went through the thread and this is what I have in terms on attendees so far:

Unconfirmed but risking losing their rankings....
pinballjm
What's the limit in terms of players. I have 4 pins right now - 1 wedgehead, 2 early SS and TZ. The early SS and wedgehead ones are fast games (for me at least) - so is 8 players the limit - or should we allow more???
I'll be there. Attendance limit is up to you - how many people are you comfortable having at once? We could theoretically have 16 and finish in the same amount of time.
Playable Now: Centaur II, Doctor Who, High Speed. Playable Soon: Breakshot, Sorcerer Later: Flash, Genie, Seawitch Fondly remembered: Firepower
We will be moving during that time frame. I had posted that I (and maybe wife) could make it to a mid to late June meeting.
Sorry man.
Z.

You're in Brett. I'm comfortable with whatever number. The meetings have been great and not a lot of "hosting" effort at all.
I may have to back out. Last weekend, I had a bit of a health scare, via chest pains. To make a long story short, my heart is fine, but I went through a heck of a week with hospital visit/stay and multitude of tests which resulted in a "take it easy for a week" order from the doctor. Issue? Anyone of you ever heard of the pericardium? That's the sack that surrounds the heart. When there is inflammation of the pericardium, mixed in with a couple of other things, I guess it can cause an apparent heart murmur and to me, it sure felt like a possible heart attack!
Back on topic, the idea is after a week's rest, I thought I might be ok, unfortunately I'm not 100% and another family health issue with my youngest daughter isn't helping stress wise. if I feel up to it, I'll be there. Maybe at worst I'll drop by for a quick visit but depending on the BP, may not stay. Maybe at best if I feel up to it, I'll stay and embarrass you all with my scores (or myself! eheh)
Speaking of Sinbad, did you do the playfield swap?
I'm a much slower worker than you Sparky. My goal / aim was to get Totem working and put Sinbad in the workroom for the swap. Then my eyes get bigger than my abilities and start thinking of painting the cabinet - it needs some structural help, too. My timing goal for Sinbad is done for the fall season (painted cabinet & playfield swap). The idea is Totem takes its place while Sinbad is in the workshop. I work in months, not days / hours like you, necro & poolman...
I guess I could start on the swap - but would like to find grounding braid. I recall ToMMy's old post saying find some old radio RG59 cable - I think I'll just buy some...

I also have Viking in pieces too.
...I have room in the van on my way back. I can always squeeze it in.

I gotta learn how to tie my own shoes eventually. Its an easy enough job - just need the grounding braid - and some pop bumper bodies (missed that in the last PBR order). Then it'll have all new everything on top (except plastics & the metal posts)....

Yep, thanks also Doug. Great host as always and fun to play older games. EM's are addictive . Hope TZ works well for you now. The pressure of rationed solder may have influenced my repair skills.........
Thanks everyone - had a blast. Thanks medvet for remembering to bring the TZ-switches & showing me how to fix it (I was half paying attention from a distance). Impressive repair with limited solder Thanks to the Montreal guys - Sparky & JD3 for attending & bringing up Totem.
Sorry we missed you Ethous - happy birthday though!
Can't believe I did well on TZ the game I play the least, and did poorly on Sinbad the one I was training on for 3 months.
Thanks for a great time, Doug. While I cursed the game, I really enjoyed the Sinbad. Gregg and I really got into the game afterward. It's definitely a great two player (or more game).

Tuborg - Thanks for hosting. Your basement is the best for snacks. Between the candy vending machines and the popcorn I was in heaven.
Medvet - Thanks for the decals and drop targets. I just installed the drop target decals in my GNR and the game looks 10x better! If you had applied them, I bet you wouldn't have sold the game
Tinyrodent - Thanks for keeping track of the scores, and kicking my butt.

I love Sinbad, just can't believe Duane typed that. Who kidnapped him and switched him with a defective clone? Yeah, let's not talk about that skillshot, I hit it once in about 8 games yesterday. Not my brightest hour...
Forget the saying...isn't it something like we are cruel to the ones we love? That about sums up Sinbad for me. I was cursing at the game, but kept giving it one more try. That bad boy must have taken alot of quarters back in the day. Like Pinbot, the game is a drain monster.

Me, too. Guess I should have just typed the popcorn was good
, I know what you mean about the drain. Those old Gottlieb are so simple in their rule set but they were deviously designed for the "one more go" mentality. At least that's how I feel. Ever play Gottlieb's Spider-man? There's another pin with that dual flipper gap that drove me nuts but kept me coming back for more.
I just started playing pins earlier this year and I was wondering how I go about joining the Ottawa Pinball League?
Watch for the announcement of the first meeting in this section of the boards (I assume in Sept/Oct latest) and then PM the host/hostess and come and play and meet the rest of the Ottawa players.
The more , the merrier! Hope to see and meet you in the fall.
