Within the next few years, a lot of new attractions as well as mixed use commercial/residential is going to be pooping up in that area...
Better for businesses to poop up than crap out. Just call it "Triumph the Wonder Dog's Arcade... a great place to play arcade games... for me to poop on!"
Note to self: please include this in the top-ten funnily misspelled posts
Zoning is good to go in this area, and the foot traffic is increasing along Cherry St, as they have recently redid Cherry Beach, and are in the process of revitalizing the entire portlands area. Within the next few years, a lot of new attractions as well as mixed use commercial/residential is going to be poPping up in that area. It is somewhat reasonably priced, being located next to a large nightclub, drive in movie theatre, driving range and go kart track, so the future may be bright for that area. I took some pics of it, maybe will post them later, I think it is a good place to start, but ultimately Niagara Falls is the best place for something like this.
Sounds very promising!!! An arcade beside a beach and bar and hotspots... just like the good old days!!!
I'm sure you've already covered this, but check and make sure there's no schools nearby.. apparently it's illegal to have coin operated games within a certain distance of a school here in Toronto. I guess they prefer to keep the violence and drugs on school property?

Oh man, that is frickin hilarious... I can see it now... the school commisionner bans arcades from a certain distance from schools to avoid kids to be exposed to violence... then after work he heads home and plays Gears of War, Resident Evil 5 and SF4 with his kids.
Makes me laugh... we are a nation of hypocrites. Seems just like in the US... porn is shunned upon, yet most people watch some and the US is the world's biggest porn producer.
Accept porn, legalize weed and let arcades open near schools. (this coming fom a guy who has never smoked anything in his life... heavily asthmatic...)
(On a side-note, can you imagine the money the government could make by legalizing and taxing weed? Holy crap. Then our schools could have more money... that would be ironic. )

Yep. It's the reason there's no arcade games in our local variety stores. Sucks, really.. some of my best memories as a kid was saving up milk jugs to trade for quarters for the games at the local Beckers in Guelph. Kids here are really missing out!

So are you using this more as a launching point witht he ultimate goal of heading to Niagara Falls?
The ultimate goal is to have one location in Toronto, and one in Niagara Falls( maybe travelling exhibition of some sort in the warmer weather?). If the one in Toronto is successful and has a following( which it will be), and is financially viable, we wouldn't close it down. To get some sort of presence in NF is definitely one of our goals though. We will see what happens, and it seems that the City of Toronto is supportive of this venture, which is a plus for having a constant presence in Toronto. I feel that over time, it will actually get better and better, and have more and more demand.
PS It is not even remotely close to a school...300m to be exact is the limit in the City.

Even if it was close by, I'll bet you could get a variance if it was classed as a one price admission museum and/or you restricted access during school hours. Everyone keeps arcane laws on the books, just in case, and this is coming from a different era. But I do beleive that it was Toronto or Ontario that banned them outright for a while claiming them to be illegal gambling devices... I keep trying to find a reference to this, but I haven't stumbled upon it yet.

Funny you say about the ban, supposedly there was a ban in the early 70's on pinball, similar to the one in New York City, but I have yet to find a reference. I am going to take a trip to the archives to find out some more about that before it opens. The zoning for the entire city of Toronto is being amalgamated right now, and updated, and ill tell you, it is very foggy, but I have been guaranteed that if I set up in an I4 Industrial zone, everything will be good to go, without needing a variance
