Hey Just a heads up

I found the carpet from a company called Flagship really good quality, and they send you out a whole big  package of free sample carpets (i ended up using them as mats infront of my machines)
they sent me 6 different samples, they are great

Also, as for the fake neon (LED) it's ok, but the problem with any sort of LED rope light, or oldschool ropelight, is over time and if it gets kinked or stretched, you'll end up having dead sections, which looks really crappy, there are lots of places to get side-emitting fibre optic cable on ebay and the internet, you could buy some of that, and have one light source in a back room, and even throw a color wheel on it for a neat effect

Just my .02

Eric

Get in contact with Mike Hanely again, he just bought lighting very similar to that, it doesn't curve and is only in straight line segments but it gives the effect you are looking for, he should be able to let you know where he got it from.

Hey,

Just a thought. If it is going to be a museum/arcade perhaps you should try to work some Museum like qualities into the decor as well. I am not an interior designer, just thought if the two "styles" could be joined it would add some prestige to the location.

Hope that helps.

Drew

Thanks again for the replies guys. Yes we do want to incorporate museum designs into the facility. I have visited quite a few different types of museums, and have got a few ideas. The reality is that the first building we get ( Hopefully by Fri) will be a bit of a test market/facility, in preparation for a much larger facility, leased to us by the City/ and or the province. Here we will start our little arcade auction, restore up all the games, hold some private events, and build polished exhibits..all in anticipation of moving to another facility. We are looking at a timeline of approximately spring/summer of next year as to when we will have  our permanent facility, however you guys here  will all be invited to come and hang out/ get involved in the interim. This is a long term plan, which will have short term benefits, mainly for the current target audience..you guys. However, this first building won't be a dump either, by any stretch of the imagination.

I just wanted to let folks know that I spoke with the carpet company to get some particulars in case others may be interested. Here are the details;

1- There is a minimum order of 432 square feet for any of the black light glow in the dark carpets.
2- The price is just shy of $700 US for that amount of carpet.
3- They then need to know who will be the broker because it is being shipped out of country (add broker fees).
4- There are shipping costs as well, no idea how much.
5- They are located 90 miles north of Atlanta.

Looks like I will need to save a few more pennies, hmmm.

Quoted from gjd
Anyone know where to get led flex neon by the roll...cheap? Anyone have experience working with it?

Also, anyone have any design ideas for the museum, that you think would class it up a bit, or make it a more , shall we say, enchanting atmosphere? Let me know, wild and crazy ideas are welcome too, as after all, this is kind of a crazy idea to begin with.

PS here is a pic of an artists rendition of an arcade, I kind of like it ( - the carpet)

Man... I can't begin to tell you how many times I have watched that video... I once watched it for an hour straight, wishing to see that again one day, if only for a day.

What can I say... if Heaven was a reflection of a place you loved during your life, mine would be an arcade like that. Good friends, good games, good music... hard to beat.

Retiring soon...

You hit the nail right on the head. It's more about the atmosphere and the " time machine" aspect of this whole thing. You can find most of these games online, or with mame, and be playing them within 10 minutes, you can even have the cabs in your house, but there is something about the whole feeling associated with a place like that. Fear not, its coming...soon!

Thank you Andrew for your insight. I certainly want to incorporate the "museum" aspect to this venture, and have already collected quite a significant amount of written history/ obscure details about the whole idea of the arcade.I also would like to include portions of "how it works" as well. I appreciate your ideas, and am going to contact you via PM
