Totally off topic but rather important and widespread apparently.
I kind of came across this in a round about way, but anyway there is a lot of dog food being recalled from a Canadian subcontractor that supplies much of the food.
Anyway I lost my Scottie to cancer last week and it kind of hit home. I still have my other dog and just checked all her food. You might want to check yours if you have a critter at home.
Funny thing is, pet food is better for you than much of the stuff we eat. I had a buddy that after a few ales would make dog food sandwiches and scarf them down.
Thanks for the post, Necro, and sorry to hear about your loss. My deepest sympathies.
I looked over the list and it seems the recall is only for can and pouch food, so I'm in the clear. I only feed Java (my black Lab) dry dog food. My boys only feed him their food
BTW, all the talk about people eating dog food is just sick. Even my dog won't eat his food if given the choice -- which he often is by my boys Would you believe, before kids, I had him so well trained I could leave my dinner on the coffee table, leave for a few hours, come back and it would still be there? That all ended with child number 1...
Sorry to hear about your little guy, Glen. It's always a hard decision to make. Thinking of you.
Re the current food scare:
For anybody that possibly has fed these foods, they are only canned and pouch dog and cat foods manufactured by Menufoods for many companies. It is gravy/chunk type diets and all the affected brands can be found on their website. DRY FOODS ae not affected. Despite varying reports in the news, the foods were in the US and Canada and many cases are being seen across the US and Canada. Clinical signs are of kidney failure so vomiting, lethargy, depression. If you feed these types of diets - check the lots now and if not sure, see your vet and follow their recommedations which will probably include some basic blood tests. We've seen a few cases already in my hospital including my own business partners cat who ate President;s Choice food. The only good part right now is if caught soon and treated agressively with IV fluids they have a good prognosis. It's a terrible tragedy and food testing is being done by multiple independent companies right now to find the causal agent.
I hope everybodys pets are OK and haven't been fed these diets but don't panic as not every pet eating them is affected either but as I said, if unsure see your vet.
gets me all worried about all the wild cats people bought these types of food for. hard to see tell with them if they are not in doors all the time.
other crap news is that some of these company's have know about this for years. one company had a law suit started against them in 2004. they didn't do anything with there food till 2006 and state that some it is still on shelves. can't remeber the name (pothead me).
always hate to hear about a pet loss glen. take good heart and think of the best times.

"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has said the investigation into the pet deaths focused on wheat gluten imported from China.
Wheat gluten itself would not cause kidney failure, but a common ingredient could have been contaminated, the FDA said.
A Friday report from ABC News stated that the rodenticide had been used on wheat that was imported from China by Menu Foods.
The massive recall affected roughly 60 million cans and pouches of pet food, sold under 91 brand names such as Iams and Eukanuba, and through major retailers including Safeway, Wal-Mart and PetSmart.

I was wondering how did the rat poison get in food ...
