well, 2 months ago i bought a williams space shuttle on les pacs, playfield was a total lost, machine very dirty, missing 2 plastic (kickers).

So why not make it a project, found myself a new overlay, maybe the missing plastic (will see).
So far, removed the playfield, made a sealed box so everything is still under the playfield, sanded down and sealed the playfield (polyuretane).
playfield is now ready to recieve the overlay but first i have to fix every inserts (words, points etc..)

here's the images for now, i will update my progress with pics.

Hey, now there's a thought, maybe I should make  a whitewood pf out of mt Space Shuttle too while I'm waiting for the repop pf's from CPR.

C'est justement ce que je me disais.... Sa doit surement grafigner les inserts.....

No... you MUST clearcoat your playfield in order to properly install the overlay. If you don't:

- the overlay won't stick properly... wood is dusty, no matter how many times you wipe it

- any scratches on inserts will always show.

- Overlays don't cover shooter lanes (not supposed to anyways... the shooter lane is concave... the overlay isn't), so you have to clearcoat it to protect it.

Use either Varathane Diamond Finish or an automotive clearcoat. This will give a clean, smooth surface for the overlay to stick on. Also, they recommend to slightly wet the surface to properly install and align the overlay. With bare wood, you can't.

yes the insert look a little bit frosty from the clear, so before i put the overlay i have to prepare the insert i will use 600/1000 grid and buff it and then put score numbers on top of it.

exactly thats why it's sealed now for easy installation, to align the overlay (i'll take a pic of it). wait maybe 1 or 2 weeks to dry.

and after that, i'll bring it to the garage, 3 coats of automotive clear, use 1000/1500 grid, buff it (will take a pic of that too)

next step, to the garage for 3 clearcoat, sand it, buff it.

yes it is true when you applied the clear scratches will disapear, but also depends, if you use 600, no prob.

yes bubbles will disapear, but if the overlay you get also cover your inserts, it leaves some kind of a white cloud of glue, in my case i had to cut every insert, they look much better that way and the clear will be on top of the inserts not the vinyl.

I have a space shuttle in bad need of this, is there a place to get the overlay?

ok, sanding and clear is done (yesterday), tomorrow i will finish my sanding 1200 and 1500, and polishing.

will put a pic of final product tomorrow, for now here's a pic of clearing in action!

result for now is very good.

ok, playfield is finish, next, wax it, maybe novus and put it back together, probably gonna re-do the shuttle toy and new plastic, post etc...

i decided to fix the shuttle toy, here's a pic of before and after on primer, next, paint, decals and clear.

not sure if i'm gonna mod the shuttle with leds, probably ad some truster in the back (red plastic post).

there you go, fixed the shuttle toy (had some thruster/plastic post) i think it looks great!

next, new pics of the new playfield reassemble... 2-3 days.

well the plastic post idea came from him...

i e-mailed him to see if he had an extra repared shuttle, he said yes, $125.00 if you want it...... ask him if he was serious, yes he was.
i told him '' i think i can fix mine.......'' there you go! and it looks much better than the one he fixed!!!

all i had to do was to kick myself in the butt to do it........ ouch!

i will send him a pic when i'm done since the vinyl overlay came from him! to bad i won't see his face when i see the shuttle

yes i know, it was like that when i got it.
like i said, i have a few minor things to fix, bats, the flaps on the ramp, little paint on the targets, easy stuff!

about the lights in the gameroom, you should see what it looks like all around, very nice, i will probably put some pics in the gameroom section!

Beatmaster you saved a pin that most people would have written off. Amazing work and I also like the blue light in your games room, nice touch.

hey i'm late on this. here's a mod i did on the shuttle, nothing much, very easy to do, i think it looks good.

je n'ai pas d'autre overlay... mais cpr sort un playfield, meme si tu ne peux plus placer un order demande d'etre sur la second list, c'est ce que j'ai fais avec playboy et je l'ai reçu cette semaine.

sinon y as toujours ed chung, mais 200$ son overlay et si je me trompe pas c'est lui qui a donner son master a CPR (pas sure)

Le résultat final et surtout la derniere photo sont écoeurant,on dirait une photo de promotion,ça donne quaisiment le gout d'en avoir une et surtout je l'ai seulement jouer sur la Wii de mon gars et je l'a trouvais bin l'fun,bravo pour ton travail,un autre game de sauvé

Quand on regarde le avant et après, on se rend compte que tu as mis beaucoup de temps sur cette gamme.  Le feu derrière la fusée est comme la cerise sur le sunday
