Seeing how I probably have one of the least inspiring or clever nick-name on MAACA,
I was just wondering how people came-up with their nick-name.

I know Sparky was his by lightning as a child  (... which explains alot .. .

MEDVET is Mery-Ellen's initials with the tag "VET" ,which is what she does for a living...

Mr.MikeMan is reasonably self-explanatory...

HAL-9000 has some omnipotent Space Odessey feel to it

But what about names like "Ethous" , "Vengeance", "Frosken", "Necro-Nemesis",
and lord-forbid... "MonkeyBug"  or "Meat Popsicle"

What are people "really" hiding behing their nick-names ?
(...sorry, slow day at work... )

Steph  (aka. Robo-Master )

I'm a big fan of Marvel comic books and one of my favorite series was Ghost Rider.  Not the old 80's version but the second set that came out in the 90's.

There was a character in the comic who was one of my favorite characters. So I used his name - Vengeance

I started using jokker back in the the early 90's when I was big into the BBS world.  Joker was usually the choice for whatever game (LORD, TW2002, BRE, Solar Realms, Falcon's Eye).  Eventually it was cool to start adding extra letters and stuff so I changed it to Jokker.  It also kinda reflected my personality as a fairly humourous person, not in a prank way but more in a always making people laugh way.  Years ago it was Jokker Wyyld but then I shorted it to just Jokker.

newf - I'm from Newfoundland

112  - In my final year of university I spent 48 hours - straight - trying to debug a project I had to submit.  Turns out I had a bitshift incorrect creating an FTP packet that was 112 bytes shy of what it needed to be.  Such a dumb mistake, I keep the 112 at the end of my alias so I never forget to double and triple check the small things my code.

112 -  For the non-tech people... I screwed up in school and the result was 112 in my face over and over again for 48 hours straight.

Sorry guys, not much thought went into mine. Needed a nick name and I looked up and the first thing I saw was my Laser Printer, model HP5P, so I used that.

Ok, i guess this thread has been started specifically for me !

Mine came from the Cthulhu Mythos, created by H.P. Lovecraft in his novels.

I used to play the R.P.G. bsed on it (Call of Cthulhu) when i was 16. I got pretty much addicted to it for a few years, to a point where we were playing at least once or twice a week. YES, i was a geek...

I added a "t" at the end to make it unique, as there is literally thousands of "Azatoth" on the web, very popular nick (surprising isnt it).

To learn more on the subject, lots of explanations over there --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azathoth

Well mine is simple...

Like Jokker, I used to BBS alot in the very early 90s, which I always used the nick 'thefrog', as I was, most of the time, the only 'frog' on the BBS.  Then other people started to use it, so I talked to a Norwegian penpal and asked him how do you say "the frog" in Norwegian...and now you know how to say 'the frog' in Norwegian

Current 'working' lineup: ( 2 )
Flipper Football, The Shadow

Gone but not forgotten: ( 22 )
City Slicker, Dirty Harry, CFTBL, Big Shot, Big Guns, Black Rose, Judge Dredd, Indianapolis 500,
Big Game, BS: Dracula x 2, Beat the Clock, Fire!, F-14 Tomcat, Getaway, Breakshot,
Cheetah, Meteor, El Dorado, Nitro Ground Shaker, Chexx Hockey, Slugfest

and lord-forbid... "MonkeyBug"  or "Meat Popsicle"

Mine is actually quite simple.

Its a quote from the film 'The Fifth Element'  I enjoyed the movie and was looking for a unique nick where I didn't have to append any number after it and one that has a low probability of being duplicated.  So Meat Popsicle was born.

Sparky...  yes, I was struck by lightning, albeit indirectly. I was playing ball with some friends and it started raining hard. I was the last to leave and I was walking along the large steel fence near the dugout and lightning struck the fence with me five feet away, so I got a good chunk of it. I woke up some time later (watch was fried, dunno how long...) with burn marks on my clothes, pain in my mouth (fillings popped), and the headaches of all headaches that made my nose bleed like crazy. I crawled home and was examined by a doc later who said I was OK, other than needing new fillings and suffering from some memory loss. To this day I forget simple things like where I left my keys or dumb things like that.

Some people also call me "Lucky" due to me being Irish and all the accidents I have gone through and still live, other than the lightning incident:

- hit twice by cars (one was a getaway car from a store robbery...)
- mugged twice (1st was with a baseball bat, and second time it was bare fists with 8 guys in a Jamaican gang... managed to get a few down! They actually gave up because they thought I was insane, I was still going after them even busted wide open (they were harassing "roughly" a couple of girls near my home and I didn't take it...) )
- stabbed in the ribs with a barbeque fork (long story... involves a girl again... the guy looked worse off than me in the end)
- my world famous diving incident at 9 years old which resulted in 2 years of plastic, dental surgery and a steel plate in my head... that hurt.

I guess it is why to this day I don't scare easily. God can't kill me... I will go when I am damn good and ready!!!

I was looking at registering che_guevara@hotmail.com but low and behold it was already taken (maybe he never was shot in the mountains of Bolivia!)

Anyway, the email became cheg_uevara and thus was born the nick Cheg. Been using it in newsgroups and other sites since 2002...it was cghost before that.

I started using necro_nemesis on Unreal Tournament. The underscore was because it would not allow for entry of a space so underscore is a valid character in UT. Anyway it basically was all deathmatch and I did a lot of the killing so I more or less played on enemy of the dead because very shortly after encountering me you pretty well were guaranteed to be.

It always amazes me when I go onto anouther site and registering it that I am told it is taken. Since it doesn't relate to any fictional or non-fictional story or character. I assume by it being an uncommon combination of words that it was probably ripped off over the years from me being online.

SquidVicious,

has a two fold explanation, it is a play on the punk singer Sid Vicious but it originated while I was playing Baseball for a team called the Screaming Squid. On the team I was by a far margin the smallest guy so when nicknames came up Squid Vicious seemed amusing and has stuck since.

Tuborg - A good danish beer.   My dad's danish, and enjoys sharing the culture.   He is the real "Tuborg" from early days when I was a kid.   I'm Tuborg Juniour, but at some time you have to give up the "junior" moniker...

...he earned the "Tuborg" on more than one road trip with the boys or so the legend goes...

If you are ever in Copenhagen, goto the Carlsberg beer factory - very nice.  Years ago you used to get 20-minutes of "all you can drink"..., I think even the danes have stopped that one..., I would like to think I helped them come to their senses,

I believe they made a movie about you...

It was called  "Unbreakable"  (... with Bruce Willis playing your character...).
Not a bad flick, ..but they completely omitted the pinball side of the story .

One of the Expos greatest douchbags...

Originally drafted 3rd overall by the Cubbies in 1984, the hard throwing(and quite ugly) Hall had some serious control problems and was traded by the cubs to the Rangers along with Palmeiro and Jamie moyer for Mitch williams and a bunch of nobodies...

After one so-so season with Texas they send him to Montreal for Jeff Huson....

Where he posted a 4-7 record along with a 5,09 ERA....  Was released by the Expos at the end of season... And never pitched another MLB game....

Other memorable douchbags: Jerry Willard,Herman Winningham,Sherman obando,Mike Hubbard.. the list goes on and on.....

So many souvenirs.......

Well, I think Pins Only is, or was, pretty obvious... However I find myself picking up Vids now and then, they were mostly for business purposes, but still... I am always kind of trying to get back focused on Pins... Seem to be failing miserably! I think that is OK though...

no big surprise that i am a fan of horror movies and such.
gorydeath.
gory for my first name and death as my last.
gre-gory the vampire bat was a toy offered back in the comics in the 60's, 70's and 80's.  back when i was a child i saw it and thats how i spelt my name ever since.  not too many people call me greg.  gory i get quite a bit.
death just made sense.  i did draw a comic book back in the early 80's of a charter called gorydeath.  it was football looking charter with huge claw legs and one sharp fang.  just ran around tearing people apart.  blood and gore (yes back then i drew with real blood).  it was done as a underground printing in belleville.  did 40 copies of each of the eight issues (then ran out of blood).

No inspiring story here...  Anyone that knows me outside of the hobby might catch me behind a set of turntables at a nightclub somewhere in and around the GTA. Me too.

In my early on-line gaming days, I'd use the moniker "ProgRock" because that's the type of music I adore and when used in a game like Quake III or Jedi Knight, it sounds somewhat fitting. But whenever I'd register for a forum like this one, I could never bring myself to use that name. Why? Because I never wanted to be at a gathering of collectors meeting people for the first time and say "Hi, I'm ProgRock."

I still laugh at Glen's nick and imagine him introducing himself to people as "Necro_Nemesis".

Mani is my name, pure and simple.

Az -

I am a huge HP Lovecraft fan, and I often fantasize about how cool it would be if there was a Lovecraft pinball game. One of the first things I'd do if I won the lottery is hire Popadiuk, some artists, and make a run of "HP Lovecraft Historical Society" pins.

the backglass would be something like this but less funny.

Would be really cool indeed !  It would make an awsome pin theme, lots of stuff could be added in there.

Now that i think about it, the Creech looks like it was a Deep One, hummmmm...

Cent for Centennial (1967 my birth year was Canada's Centennial (100th) Birthday)

and

tallica for my favorite band "Metallica"

just stuck with using it for every board I'm on....

Quoted from fluidfrank
My nick-name is simple: My job is to give technical back up in  industrial pneumatics and hydraulics wich is known as''fluid power''. My official title is: Fluid power specialist. You have now guessed the rest. My first name is Frank (Franois) and I work with imaginative individuals. Fluidfrank was born.

Shouldn't that be fluidefrank ? or francoisfluide ?

(OK just kidding, but I'm anglophone and part of my business is translation)  At the very least you're very well lubed. (no ofense, I;m waiting one a new pin acquisitiion and a bit tense.)

Quoted from Tuborg

Been there but didn't get the 20 minute tour.  But of course I tried to smoke all I could in 20 minutes.  The hang over was not the same, however..... and I couldn't stop eating mayonaise with my french fries....
