Which is better, Batman (The Dark Knight) or Iron Man? A week ago I never would have considered Batman, but the update looks great, something that should have been done long ago. Is Iron Man finished, or as good as it will be?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks,  Dave

For me probably BDK ... IM is good but I think with the new code BDK offers more.

Did you try Batman at Loco Lous?
Jay really keeps it running well,  I'm sure he will update code soon if not already.

Ironman , I bet Lance would love to have you demo his.

I thought the crane in Batman was fun before
and the update apparently made it even more interesting at times.

Medvet will vote BKD. She really loves it.

I would vote IM. I found the ball time really long on BSD even with the first update and outlanes opened wide. I haven't played it since the second update and my opinion may change. There is alot to do with BDK. I love the look of the game and enjoy the variety of things. For some reason, it just doesn't grab me like my other favourite Sterns: LOTR, TSPP, and Spiderman. It's definately a fun game, but I like IM more.

IM game play is absolutely intense. The magnets really add alot to the game. There really isn't anything to slow the ball down, so you constantly have to be on guard -- at any moment the ball can be sent flying to the side drains. It's not a game to play and relax, that's for sure. Some have complained the right ramp is to hard to hit. I haven't found that on the two I have played. Yes, you have to hit it square, but it's not nearly as difficult as Pinball Magic -- a game I detest because of that ramp.

Like I said, my opinion could totally change based on the latest software, but at this point I like IM more than BDK although both are good and you couldn't go wrong with either.

Ha - you beat me to the same comment I was going to make but in reverse....Daune would vote IM but I like Batman . Everything mentioned by Duane is true. For just plain fun - Batman is my favourite especially the crane and with the new software - it's now like target practice. But it is longer ball times - even for me ! Ironman is fast and furious with the unknown magnet element and very short ball times.

My advice Dave..... - just go buy Ironman now as it's easy to buy NIB (unless you want to wait for HUO). Also (knowing your mentality(like mine ) - start looking for a BDK now as it took me about a year to find a HUO one. They weren't being sold before by the owners and this new software upgrade just made it worse. That way - you'll have an Ironman to play while you wait for the BDK to show up!

! My advice would be different, too. Dave, you cann't decide between the two and you eventually want both, I would suggest getting BDK NIB now. IM is still at the beginning of the run and should be available for awhile. Finding a HUO BDK is very difficult and I suspect HUO IM aren't going to come up either and when they do eventually turn up, I suspect the price is going to be on the high side. The game is just that good. So in the end, you will probably be looking at two NIB purchases unless you are very lucky. For that reason, grab BDK now as I'm not sure how much longer it will be run. Then again, the new code could result in a longer run.

Crap, forgot to add....Medvet is right, the crane is really, really fun on Batman. It gets insanely fast by the second time and on the third, you have to line the crane and the lite target. I still think IM is a better game, though

Iron Man. Hands down. Long ball times = crap. Nothing more boring than waiting after someone 20 minutes for them to finish their ball. And I have always believed that long ball times have contributed to killing pinball.

Good for Stern for going the other way.

Can't comment on BDK since I tried to stay away because of the code issues.  I might have to rethink that.  Yes IM is a fast game without many stoppages.  I think the only time is when you start the War Monger.  Hopefully they will allow the flipper cancel soon.  Dave you are more then welcome to come and try it.  I should be getting my shaker soon  .  Dave why don't you get both?

Agreed, bought my first machine from Jay, he's certainly doing his part in our neck of the woods to keep gaming alive. Thoughts on Southern Music? Jay should work his way into the airport, currently Southern Music has about 10 machines in play there.

Thanks for the input everyone, I managed to get out and play a Batman, I had played it a few times before but really don't remember it. The new software seems really good, lots of multi-ball, Crane is really neat. Over all it seems fun!

Sparky, you are very right though, Loooong ball times! That is why we only played one game.

Also played a Big Buck Hunter, Surprisingly fun!! I was generally surprised on this one, I thought the theme was going to ruin it for me, but found the game funny, the shots good, the scoring low, the Buck in the center a fun toy. I can see this game dropping in price do to theme, but I would definitely look for one in the future!!

Now I need to find an Iron Man to play!!

Anybody have any of the 3 for sale??

Dave

Agree on BBH. It's a surprisingly fun game. Would probably do well on location. Not sure in the home in the long run, but I'd certainly drop a loonie or two on location.

Played more of BDK and Iron Man last night as I had dropped off a game for Bally Boy at MedVet's.

IM, IHO, is the better game. It's just a blast to play. And there are stacking opportunities. You can stack MBs, but you have to start the other MB while Iron Monger is up. Once you start Iron Monger MB, the rest appear to be disabled. I believe you can also start boogy(?) during MB but I'm not that good and didn't start it   so I'm only guessing here.

TDK is a fun game. I enjoy it, but I find it too easy and ball times are long. I know some will think that is a weak argument when you can have long ball times on LOTR and TSPP -- both games I love.

On LOTR and TSPP, you have to earn those long ball times. The shots on both games are tight and unforgiving, so I feel the ball time is earned. With BDK, the shots are rather forgiving and quite wide. The ramp shot is easily hit from both flippers. The left orbit is wide and fairly easy to hit. Scarecrow can be backhanded. The only tough shot is the right orbit. It's kind of hard as it is hidden under the Path of the Batman Also, on LOTR and TSPP, the games are deep so you can have alot going on. Doesn't appear to be as much with TDK, so it isn't in the same league -- for me anyhow -- as LOTR and TSPP.

All is all, TDK is fun, but I like IM more.

I'd still stick with my original suggestion. If you want both eventually, get BDK now as it might be at the end of it's run and get IM, later. If you only want one or the other, I vote IM.

Cheers,
Duane

Thanks, Nope on the software, It was actually built on June 11 2009! (Apparently not a big seller before the update! ) so it had version 2.3 in it, I played one test and went and downloaded the latest (I think) version, says 2.94 now, which I think is the latest version...

Yup, Great looking game for sure, Playing better as I go along, I have adjusted the ball guides that was making me annoyed and fixed a couple switch issues (Got to love NIB!), nothing major, but enjoying it more as I go along. Now I need to find my Wax, I always put that stuff somewhere "that I will remember where it is"! sigh...

Hell has frozen over. Phil and I agree on Batman vs. IM. IM is a much better game.

Oh wait, we disagree on 24. You need to give the game some serious time. It grows on you. The game play is really intense with timed shots that makes for really intense play. I really, really enjoy the game. I think I put over 400 plays on it while it was in my house -- it got played regularly.

I only got the chance to play one round of 24, so I really can't weight in on that one. But I've put lots of time into the old BDK (before the revision) and quite enjoyed it despite the fact that it was incomplete and I just got my first dose of IM yesterday (ate like $15 off me).

I have to say that i liked BDK out of the gate BECAUSE of the longer ball times. I haven't been playing pinball for very long so I found that machine encouraging and played it a lot. IM was the total opposit and handed me my a** on a platter. Vicious out lanes that gobbled any stray ball that went near them, the right ramp spit the ball out into an in lane that always bounced oved into my out lane. I had an unatural fear of that ramp shop until I learned to nudge the machine as it spit out my ball.

I'd have to play BDK to make a new assesment. But I think I prefer IM so far. It's harder, but the gameplay forces you to play smarter, and more on edge. I like the frantic quality.
