Has anyone had luck matching paint colors for Funhouse or Whitewater.  I know there are a few sights such as pinball universe that sell a touchup kit. But google has led me to believe that all FH blues are not created equal and there were discrepancies in the production run.  I was wondering if anybody bought some of them and if they felt it was a close, perfect or nothing remotely close color match.

Its that or .. take something off back box and try to get home depot to color match it.  I'm just reluctant to forcibly take some trim off for this exercise.

Nerco did you touch up your WhiteWater yet?

Suggestions and experiences welcome.

I use paint cards from the home depot or colour your world(lets say blue)and match the shade to the playfield, then use that card to shop for the right colour in acrylic at white rose or wherever you by your paint.I also paint a part of the back of the card and let it dry to check dry colour before it hits the playfield.I'M a little picky when it's going to be clear coated , I will even use clear nail polish on my sample to check 1oo%.

Hi MP

I bought the Pinball Universe WH20 paint when I first started - bad mistake! It's oil based and not a close match in the least. Also bought the TAF blue - useless.

I usually match by eye or paint swatches but would really like this:

http://www.pinballpal.com/colors/colorcue.htm#Matching

but can't justify the $400 for it.

This website has this database so far so may help. I find blues and greens the worst to match but eventually get it (except the STTNG blue on cabinet - close but not exact.

Good luck -hope this helped.

I don't think there were too many discrepancies in the color from the factory (at least not for a Whitewater - of which I had 2 of them).  But depending on how the paint aged (what light that the machine was exposed to perhaps), you will have many slight variations of the Blue on either of these above mentioned machines.

I bought some Blue paint for both Whitewater and DE Star Wars from Pinball Universe but never ended up using it so I cannot say they aren't good enough yet.  I don't think having oil based paint for body/backbox is a problem though.  But even Pinball Universe mentions that you might have to add White or Black to the Blue to get the perfect match.

I had heard from a pinball owner who had done numerous cabinet touch ups that he used some sort of color markers that he bought from USA (at some expensive price) that do an amazing job.  I am not sure what product it is though.

In the end, color swatches from Home Depot or Reno Depot are probably the best way to hope for the closest match.

Once it is worn, don't expect miracles from a touch up though.

Good luck.
