My first project. The current state of the game is:
boards - 0, driver board toast, earlier version so likely MPU fried too (preliminary tests from Marvin page are leading me to believe I need the $300 Pascal Janin all-in-one board)
backglass - 7-8, but needs to be sealed soon (I've ordered the blue-display filters first)
playfield - 8, some near-insert damage that needs addressing, and starting to crack, thinking of stripping and finding someone who can clearcoat it, but not likely in short term
cabinet - 7-8, nice shape - no damage, but quit faded, likely enlisting my father for painting - just need to find right colors
plastics - 7-8 - one left-plastic by target chipped by target, one small crack by post hole - might consider buying repo's if PBR/Steve Young still has them - or try to find the plastic-scans
cabinet door - clean - just need to order new Gottlieb sticker
My ratings are based on an almost 30-year old machine - not sure how accurate they are. Will be taking pictures and posting, looking for any advice.
Do not forget the power supply, and bottom boards.
Power supply is usually easy to rebuild; typical is cold solder joints at header pins, as well as dirty voltage adjust pots, sometimes old dried-up cap(s). Make sure you put proper mica isolators & thermal grease on putting it back together!!
Bottom board: In my experience, rarely a failure there (once seen a burned transformer), except the typical incorrect fuses...
A replacement Ni-Wumpf is available for $199 USD from John's Jukes (www.flippers.com). Sys1 driver boards are easy to find on eBay.
Check all connectors for corroded/broken pins. You will also need to do the ground mod. (in addition to the usual shopping of the machine).
Good luck !
Cheers, - Sylvain.

Pascal's board is soooo much better. It does the 'normal' original rules but also has the new and improved modern rules such as: skill shot, stacked extra balls, higher bonus count, ball save, high score list with initials, attract mode, etc...

Currently owning: ============ MAME in Sega cab with 25" arcade monitor (Has a 12" Bazooka powered subwoofer in it) - Not for sale Williams Civic Center Shuffle Alley (Puck Bowler) (1973) - 350$ Seeburg LS1 "Spectra" Jukebox (1967) - 300$
Currently babysitting =============== Heavy Metal Meltdown SOLD - leaving soon
Previously owned ============= Hot Tip, Countdown, HS, WWF, TFTC, T2, RS, Pinbot, Laser War, LOTR, Flinstones, FH, DM, STTNG, Getaway, Silver Slugger, Laser Ball, Bad Cats, Batman Forever, Meteor, TZ, Galaxy, 6MDM, TSPP, MB.
Thanks for the advice. My logic was going the Ni-Wumpf way I need $200 + shipping, plus an ebay Driver board (used) @ $35 + shipping. So, I'm up @ $235 + 2*shipping - and no new power supply.
So I'm very close to the cost of the Pascal board ($300 + shipping) - which has the benefits MrMikeman mentioned, plus the option to use pinned-connectors (and a new power supply, too). So for a few bucks extra I get a single board replacing the boards. If I go this route I might have some boards for you Sylvain

Looks very interesting, indeed ! Deeper ruleset
What turned me off however is the apparent mandatory membership/club application, to be put on a waiting list (according to his web site), plus the wait time required before having a chance to order/get one. Plus, some concerns about any future repairs and parts availability... (similar issue with Ni-Wumpf I guess, but at least Ni-Wumpf is manufactured in the US by an actual company, although this is not a garantee that it will never foil one day !).
Plus, $300 plus shipping makes this project Sinbad quite an expensive project... But it shall be really something in the end. Next: Sooped-up subwoofer sound, YEAH
The important thing is for the owner to enjoy the repairs/restoral of that Sinbad, get some experience through the process, and having fun playing the machine. For sure, this hobby is not cheap in the end, but it is soooo much fun !
Good luck, project pinballs are a lot of fun (and sometimes challenging)
Cheers, - Sylvain.

I think this is because he does it as a not for profit enterprise. He needs X amount of orders to make the minimum required for a run.
Was this the sinbad project that was posted recently for sale? I thought it was an EM?

Yeah - for sure Sylvain. Financially I would be much better off having bought one of your Sinbads. For sure, this one will cost a lot, but as you say the fun of the hobby is the experience. Not sure how other MAACA members add up cost - but just getting the machine was a fair bit of money. That's why jvegas is great Ottawa asset - once I get the money for the better machines.

No. This was the one for sale along with the Escape from the Lost World ($350 & working). I think this machine was the "steal" - and the Sinbad was well taken care of - but not a steal per see. Jack and Judy the former owners at the Miller Timer Sands Resort http://www.nexicom.net/~millers/index.html were very nice people.
The day I went up Judy had done a 650km bike ride. Very nice resort. Jack rebuilds Porsche 911's and drives a veggie-oil Mercedes. The resort seems to have ATV, mtn bike, beach, boats and other actiivities for all.
I tend to agree with MrMikeman - Mayfair Amusements hasn't answered a few mails for a Sinbad backglass. Maybe if they don't have it, they don't answer. But for $250 you really gotta like the game if that's what they cost.
Actually this backglass isn't too bad considering. I bought the pinball pal (www.pinballpal.com) blue display covers and installed them then triple-thicked it.
The display covers are nice - not as happy with the installation as I had hoped - but a good result - probably good once only the score-segments are the only light-source lighting it. The installation issues were my fault, next time will be better (if my wife lets me buy Pinball Pool...)...
Here's the results - after triple-thicking it - now i gotta decide if we try to touch up some places (that's my wife's job as she's got good color matching skills) - just bought about $60 worth of delta ceramcoat paints on the web.

Why do I suck @ surfing the web/email shay & all/etc? I have spent hours surfing for many things - and make a simple post and "bingo". Thanks. I think $175 +$100 shipping +customs is a bit rich for me - but might consider it. I'm hoping to outsource the cabinet painting to my dad - I just need to get the paint colors (which I have also been surfing on, too - and email some of the main suppliers with no luck).
Thanks godsicka - and thanks to MAACA - this site really helps!
