Alright, I listened to the first sentence about thirty times, and all I can hear is
"Alright, I know a lot of you are here from the gerbil community" .... what am I missing here?

I was looking at that Shorty's he mentions in Seattle. Two and half hours to a Sunday tournament. It's tempting with the lineup.

This place seems to have the right formula to have a pinball parlour survive in todays society.

The diagrams he shows are from a book I have called "Pinball Wizardry: The Theory and Practice of the Art and Science of Pinball"
by Robert Polin and Michael Rain

Good little book, but do you think it's helped me play better?  No.  I still sometimes forget and put both my flippers up .... and I suck at pinball.

PS: The closest equivalent of Shorty's in the GTA is probably Mike Hanley's Church of the Silverball (or Howe Machinery Company) in Mississauga, when they have open house or tournament nights.

PPS: Extra Ball may be the greatest thing in individual scoring, but it means private butt kiss in Tournament play (well, at least by the rules played around here).

PPPS: I disagree with the idea that you should stand back from the playfield for a better view.  It may give you more leverage for nudging, but in watching all the best ranked players (who happen to be big tall guys), they all seem to tower over and above the playfield as much as possible.  I have experimented, and that overhead stance or view flattens the field of vision for better focus and attention to things like the targets at the top of a playfield (think CoTBL here) and it seems to improve both your peripheral vision (which is sensitive to movement at the sides), and your sense of angles of bounce off the flippers.  It does mean you have to have a better sense of "where" you want to place the ball before you flip or bounce it.

But I still suck at pinball.

Firstly I am pretty sure he said the "Rue Paul" community, o I it's a bunch of drag queens.  Actually the Drupal community  would be a bunch of open source computer geeks, which is more likely what this guy is.

Secondly, I agree with what Wayne is saying about stance. Just watch some of the better local players although not ALL are 6'3".

Thirdly, Wayne I really like your new avatar but it makes me thirsty.  And I don't think it's really you!

Ten SS games...but 8 is my limit!

Not necessarily the case. If you see Lyman Sheats style of play he views the pf from down low.
