Hi, ok i start this project this week. Don't want to restore it completely but for now i want to touch-up playfield and clearcoat it. Playfield is superb, only small touch-up to do and most of them are in black area around inserts. After 30 years they dry, pop out, warp and crack original paint around them. First remove hardware !

Thanks John, i bought this BK from a MAACA member 5-6 years ago. I played 5-6 games only since that time because i stored it. Now that i have more place, i decide to clearcoated it before playing games because i play a lot to my pins and i don't want to damage this nice playfield. After 30 years paint is weak, cracked and dry and easy to wear !!

Interresting, you do your final touch ups after a few layers of clear? What's th advantage of doing this?

It is to protect the playfield from sanding dust after the magic eraser because i sand touch-up to make them flat with the rest of the playfield. They are nice and nearly invisible this way if the color match is good. Also i have lot of sanding to do to repair the cracks around inserts.

Car clearcoat is not possible for me, too much hardware required, steams are very harmfull. Varathane need only one can and a brush and i have total control of the result. If something is not good like a color matching or strange and bizarre effect i can remove it with alcool and clearcoat again. Not hard like car clearcoat but still hard enough for a pinball table. I made Xenon almost 2 years ago, played more than 1000's game and still it look nice. With experience i make it better each time i use it
