I waxed my new DM play field today, and in a word... WOW!.

I can not believe the difference in play/speed with 3 coats of this wax on the Play field... (thanks medvet)
Photobucket
I also cleaned all the rubbers. I am a big car guy so I am no stranger to waxing. I gave this play field a good 3 coats..... it plays MUCH faster now. The wax job itself was SUPER easy when you are accustom to waxing a full car

Here is how it turned out...

All this leads me to 1 question....
do I wax my balls?  (you can stop laughing now )
I have new pinballs on order, just wondering what everyone thinks about waxin up the balls

I don't know about polishing them, it couldn't hurt. If you're putting in new ones, you have to at least clean the oil coating off them that is put on to keep them from rusting while in storage. I use brake cleaner to clean the coating off mine, but rubbing alcohol would probably do just as well.

Currently Owning:

Pins- Back to the Future, Theatre of Magic, Joker Poker, Grand Tour, Hyperball

I have new balls on the way, gotcha on the brake cleaner. (same trick used on new brake rotors on cars)

I was not wondering about polishing the balls ( already did with some metal polish)  I was asking about waxing the balls with the same wax pictured above.

Yes, Wax them, Even the Brand new ones you get. just use the rag you already did the playfield with and let it "Dry", then, buff them up. Balls get tiny scratches that work like sand paper, wax helps fill the scratches. Game will play faster again, and the Playfield will look better longer. Make sure you take all the Oil off the new balls when you get them.

Dave

Slick eh ?

oh and you bought the wrong thing. you bought "cleaner" wax.  you should have bought 100% pure carnuba wax.

Next thing to try: new rubbers !! try red flipper rubbers too instead of rocky hard black ones. AND the 2 rubbers at the slings are a "save a service call" trick by some operator to save that "one in a million" shot where the ball goes under the rubber and get stuck    (you only need one get rid of #2)

Good catch.  Indeed, this one is not ideal and has another chemical in it that might not be the best for the playfield.
And always buy the canned one (100& Pure Carnuba wax) as the one in the bottle has solvents in it (to make it liquidy) and does not leave a protective coating that is as hard as the wax sold in the can.

It is not critical that you do this now since your Playfield is all populated.  But for a future application, use the other type.  You could add some in the main open Playfield area just to add an extra coat.
