My Rat Race batteries don't hold there charge more than 3 weeks when when putting new ones in...

WHY!
Has anyone ever had this problem before?
What should I be looking at to solve this problem?

Something is drawing current. Somebody  needs to explain what it might be. My only thought is crossed -/+ which would consume energy as heat. Are the wires warm? I know that's a dumb question. Do any indicator LEDs or anything stay lit on the board?

Might not be worth tearing out the mpu board to find out. Maybe a timer or chip that doesn't stop when powered down.

I would ask on RGP.

Ten SS games...but 8 is my limit!

I'll check if the wires are warm.
Nothing stays lit on the board and I'll post on RGP too.

If the batteries last 3 weeks, you will surely not detect any heat,
as the decay rate is too 'slow' to generate noticeable heat.
It would be different if the batteries lasted 3 minutes!

It *could* be a bad 5101 CMOS RAM chip, or one of the mod.

Cheers,
- Sylvain.

Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron,
1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others.
Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for
one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!

Bad blocking diode D17 on the memory protect circuit would be my guess without looking into Sys 7 specifically.

Could you post a pic of that?
Where's the memory protect circuit?
Without a picture I'm pretty lost in that language....

Thanks.

Where's the 5101 CMOS RAM chip?
Is it repairable?

Thanks.
Claude.

What if I disconnect the game instead of turning it off.....
Will the batteries still do the same thing?

Yes, they will still drain down, the wall voltage has nothing to do with the backup batteries. You need to check D17 first and if it is okay, then look at the 5101.

You could always throw one of these in and eliminate the batteries altogether.

Tu as besoin d'un 5101 "low power".

Tu as besoin de ceci:

Claude.
