I think buying used is the more 'green' solution.
Adam may not have bought the most fuel conscious used vehicle ... but who cares? A V8 truck kicks a**! Wahhhooooeeee!

I agree with you and Otto... I rather buy used if I can, but the market pushes everyone to get new. Parts become obsolete quickly... |

Personally I don't think any of us will be around to see the world run dry of oil.
Definitely not in our lifetime, no. In fact I'd imagine we'd see a synthetic fuel before we really see electric cars become the norm. You definitely wouldn't make the trip to Expo in an electric-only car. |

Barely make it back and forth to work. According to the leaf website the thing only gets 160KM a charge and that's assuming optimal conditions, as the batteries get older and when it's cold, your going to get much less. One way for me to work is just over 40KM. |

See, I'm environmentally conscious! The fella that's storing my GREEN (and rust) '70 VW beetle is REUSING it as a prop for his daughter's wedding album. It used to get 25-26 mpg ... but now it gets 0 mpg! |

Totally agree with you. And would add "Using an existing vehicle as long as possible". Alot of pollution is created for every new car that comes off the assembly. I have read that resources would be better allocated to keeping existing and well maintained vehicles on the road longer as it results in a smaller environmental footprint. Of course, that wouldn't feed the economy, so Business/Gov't encouraged consumers to get new vehicles through deep discounts. Duane |

Then I vote we all do like Glen and "recycle" classic muscle cars! Actually, I would love an old Beetle with some new features... like a heater. Mind you, I drove my old CJ-7 Jeep all winter in 1996 and I had no top on it! I didn't have the money to pay 1400$ for a new top so I spent 350$ on a snowsuit, ski mask, goggles and good ski gloves. I would keep a cardboard box in the back to cover the clutch, brake and gas pedals if it snowed while it was parked. I even had a boat AM-FM radio which actually worked, but I couldn hear it over the ambient noise and with the suit on. Fun times though! Especially driving from Montreal to Quebec and back in -25C weather! Screw comfort!! |

Mine actually has a factory upgraded gasoline heater installed. However, it only had one setting: hot! I drove though many a winter quite comfortably in that old girl. Drove great in the snow and for making donuts. |

And the reason it is used today as a rusty prop is? |
