The movie was O.K., nothing too special.

One thing I did notice tho....

The movie was "born from the ashes" of the Halo movie. Once the Halo movie was canceled, Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp moved on to the movie District 9.

I noticed that the weapons that all the "MNU" guys have are just Halo battle rifles painted white, lol. There was even a apperence near the end by the Halo sniper rifle.

Here is a snippet of what could have been....skip right to 3 min 20 sec....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6g1yyWEfks

If you ever wondered how they know where the Master chief landed at the beginning of Halo 3....now you know.

District 9 was WAY more than 'ok'. It was the best new original sci-fi movie I've seen in theatres in 10 years.

I agree. It makes mass marketed crap look worse in comparison.

The movie was amazing!  Definitely better than most Sci-Fi of last 10 years as it was said.
And that, it did without your typical hollywood hero type actor or very famous actor, etc.  It makes you think hard about life and other things (about aliens perhaps) when you leave that theater and that is what makes you remember a movie as good.

Finally saw it tonight. Awesome movie IMHO.

SPOILER ALERT FROM HERE

I thought initially I had made a mistake going to see this in the first 20 minutes. At the beginning it looked a lot like many of the really bad British Sci-Fi's (I know it's not British but it had that feel) I have recently seen and thought this was going to be a big let down. It was just the feel the movie had at that point which reflected back to recent British disappointments I have gone to.

The movie had a lot of interesting concepts and brought them together wonderfully into the story.

This movie was not cool which made it much better than most of the stuff hitting the screen lately. Other than scenes of blowing the crap out of things with awesome firepower the remainder was quite thoughtful, somewhat stirring and if not down right depressing which made it highly entertaining.

It was filmed in a docudrama style which I found totally unique for a Sci-Fi. The casting was bang on.

I loved the unique way they portrayed the aliens. Depicting some of them as simple worker bees wanting only for a can of cat food and some shelter yet possessing superior technology and weaponry far beyond human capability. This demonstrated humility in their desire not to utilize the technology for the betterment of their situation. The character Christopher and his son were very endearing and gave the impression of having far more loyalty and moral character than anyone else in the movie. It also brought up the concept of the distinctions within the Prawn society between the various types, again a fantastic concept and well executed.

I got sucked in totally and was absolutely elated to see Christopher and his son escape from their desperate situation which to me, at that very moment in the film made me understand I 100% bought what the movie was trying to deliver.

Fantastic film. Loved the ending and hope there is a sequel equally as good.
