Care to have some Montreal competition once in a while?

Depends on your definition of 'competition'

I'm up for hosting the first Ottawa Pinball League round.   A bit informal the first night - just to get a feel for everything.   The following two dates work for tinyrodent (but not medvet).   medvet said to go ahead without her this time.

Saturday January 10th
Saturday January 17th

I haven't asked the boss - and don't know my schedule - but if you can PM me on which dates you can make - I'll then make a call.   (We have to goto Kingston one weekend soon and we are not in charge of setting that date.)

What timeframe is good?   Mid-afternoon - or nighttime?    The pins are right underneath our kids beds - so maybe not the best to go too late and selfishly I usually watch Hockey Night in Canada.    Geez, I'm sounding like and old man, and I look like one, so crap, I must be one

Does 2pm - 5pm sound right?   Too short, too early?   Let me know - and I'll adjust as much as possible.   I'll try to firm the date by Wednesday to help people plan.

I checked with my own boss and it's good.  Both dates are good and also challenging:

Jan 10th: I can see it potentially being a bit short notice though for some but it's ok for me.  The afternoon timeslot is perfect IMHO.

Jan 17th:  I play texas Hold-em poker the 3rd Saturday night of every month, so if we end up moving the timeslot to a nighttime event, I'll have to pass, but if it sticks to the afternoon, it's all good.

Of both days, I guess I have a preference for this Saturday, so I don't have two outings on the same day on the 17th.

IMO - You guys need to pick a day of the month and a time (if you are going to do once a month meetings) and stick with it.  If one thing has kept TOPL running as long as it has, its the stablity.  League night will happen every Monday night of every week (except during holidays) at 8pm. Some weeks we only have 3 people there are other weeks we have 30, but it's allways on a Monday.  People are going to have scheduling conflicts, life happens, but the people who want to make it and are commitied to the league will and the casual players will make it when they can.

Trying to work around everyones schedule is going to be impossible, but if you say that every month on the 2nd Saturday at 7pm you are having a league night at such and such location, your providing stablity to league and allowing people an oppertunity to plan to attend. By playing the guessing game by going, well I might do it next weekend if I can but the weekend after might be bettr, just adds confusion.

Pick a day and time and stick with it, My 2 cents anyway.

Hello Everyone!

I would like to participate in the League and am working on the Wife to host as well.  I have 6 machines and lots of space so hopefully I get the green light.  I would be out for the 10th and 17th though, but will check back regularly for any new dates.

I look forward to finally meeting some of you guys and girls...

Jon

Sticking to a specific timd/day of the month is probably darn good advice.  I don't think I could do a once a week thing though, but once a month should be ok... as long as it's not the 3rd Saturday night of each month eheh.

I like the idea of the Saturday afternoon. My wife would be annoyed if I couldn't spend a Saturday night with her. I'm good for either of the two proposed dates.

Hmm... same pattern as in MTL... trying to please everyone on a date is near impossible. I agree with Loafer here. Name a date and time. Period. You show, great. You don't, you don't.

Once a month or at most every 2 weeks is a good time span.

Retiring soon...

Having a fixed date every month is a great idea, but there's the exception where no one has a house available for a given month, but that can be worked around.

It's allways nice to have a few public locations to fall back on, get in talk with local opperators and find out if they can accomidate you, based on TOPL rules you only need 4 machines.  We can even get away with only 3 or 2 machines if we play the same machine twice.

The whole reason that TOPL decided on Monday is because it's the most logical choice.  Weekends are hard, people have familys and spening even one weekend out of every month dedicated to something can interfer with family plans.  But think about it logically for a second, what do you ever do on a Monday night?  I mean me I allways play pinball   But for the average person Monday nights are usually just spent at home anyway, where as weekends are usually tied up with activites.  From my personal perspective I defeintly find it easier to attend every Monday then I would if it were every Saturday as an example.  The Church of the Silver Ball Tournaments suffer from this, but they need to actual time to be able to play out the entire tournament.  I can't make every tournament because I can't dedicate a day every month on the weekend to it.  Lately I haven't been able to go to any COTSB tournaments because I've been so busy on weekends.

Ha! You haven't been to Ottawa recently, have you? The most pins in one location is The Midway, 3 machines. Then again, that was a year ago, so it's probably less.
