So if money isn't an issue and you need to have the best of the best as far as pinball is concerned than I can understand why you would purchase an Addams Family Gold pinball.
However for a lot of people the price for that particular game is pretty steep to put it nicely. Addams Family (before the gold) is just incredible as far as gameplay is concerned. It is probably the second most played pin in my collection (behind LOR of course), but I really couldn't justify the extra expense for an Addams Family Gold. What does this extra $$$ amount too. More gold instead of blue as far as the cabinet and playfield art is concerned, a few extra sounds/voices and a few more animations. Don't get me wrong, the extra sound/voices and animations definitely add to the game. I upgraded the chips with Steph's help (AFG has an extra sound chip btw), and I really like what the new chips had to offer, since it stayed true to the orignal, which is just a blast.
So if you can't justify the price for an AFG, I suggest you get an AF instead and just upgrade the chips. Both games use the same playfield after all and gameplay is just about the same IMHO. The "extra" that AFG has to offer is mainly in the eproms.
So the bottom line is if you're thinking of these games and are not sure which way to go, may I suggest you get an Addams Family and keep some of that gold in your pocket.
You can buy a nice AF and a decent second pin for the price of a Gold. But if you are a collector and you have money and you want the best, why not buy a Gold?
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

I have actually heard people saying they find the non-gold colours nicer to the eye then the gold. I am not sure what this amounts to though but more or less they say the original is more colourful and has better hues.

I must be one of these people your talking about, I appreciate the blue vs. the gold on the cabinet and playfield. And even though the gold legs, siderails, habitrail and lockdown bar are a nice upgrade, in my opinion it's just not worth the extra expense ($$$).

Like I said in the original post if money is no object and you are a serious collector than by all means get an Addams Family Gold.
If on the other hand you don't have a licence to print money, it doesn't make a lot of sense to spend the extra $$$ (like 2-3K) on a game that plays the same as the original, with some extra sounds and animations, that can be easily added to an AF game for about $15. So my game has the AFG chips and as a result plays exactly like an Addams Family Gold (which plays like an AF in the first place).
But it doesn't have the gold siderails, legs, habitrail, and lockdown bar. Oh well, I can live with that. I'd rather put the money saved toward another desirable pin.
