For anyone that cares, Hyperspin 1.0 is out it is supposed to have faster browsing of games, favorites and a bunch of other updates.

I'm going to be installing it on my MAME right now

I looked at the website for hyperspin, and it looked like it'd be good for a small number of games, but a little cumbersome for a full romset.  Do you just need to set up a lot of different sublists to get it to work well?

Has anyone tried both hyperspin and mamewah to see how they compare?

I really like hyperspin and the 1.0 release has fixed pretty much every issue that the font end had before.  Much faster game browsing, a favorites list and I really like the wow factor of the whole package with the movies and animated menus and the like.

I haven't used mamewah, but I really do like hyperspin.

You can try it out Chris at the playoffs.

It's fantastic.  Browsing a full rom set, you can quick jump via letters or indexes if you want.  Word of warning: if you try it on your pc first and it feels very clunky, its because it doesn't scale down to 800x600 anymore, so whatever resolution your desktop is, that's what it's using. Naturally, with all that flash animation, if you're running your PC at 1900x1080, it might get pretty choppy, so downgrade your resolution OR read a thread on the hyperspin forums for a work around.  Keep in mind, this is designed to work in a cab and no cab runs at such a high res.

I am considering HS for my new MAME once I get settled in my new house and do my build.

How complex was the install?  I notice the official site seems to have a well documented install section with videos and everything.

Any "gems of wisdom" for the install?

I believe you can subset games as well so that you can jump to "favourites" and that sort of thing.  I've only been experimenting with Hyperpin though.

It's a pretty easy to install, it's just the subset of configuring all the software.

My only problem is to get the videos to work with the roms the rom name and video name have to exactly match what hyperspin by default has them called.

You can create a new XML file so that all the games will work, but then none of the preview videos will unless you go around and rename them as well.  So either way if you want everything working I find that it can be quite time consuming.

At least that is my experience, there could be an easier way of doing it that I don't know.

That being said I still think as a front end it's pretty dam cool
