Anyone know how to break into a payphone?  I just got one and have no keys... I thought I'd drill out the locks, but it looks like they are special locks?  What will I replace them with? Can they be drilled out?

Anyone ever converted a Payphone to home phone?

Any suggestions would be helpful as I know nothing of payphones?  Thanks

PS: anyone want a payphone stand?  trade you for a marquee?

Funny enough.. I am having the exact same problem with my car.  I need someone to help me break into it.  Can anyone help?  My car is currently in the local mall parking lot, but only  during the daytime.

Is it cylinder key or just a keyhole? I have a lockpick kit i just got...

as for monkeybug... just get or buy a blood pressure arm thing.. you can put that in the top corner of your door and pump it up and then will be able to slide something in to pop the lock.... thats how the caa guy did it when i locked my keys in the car...

These things are built like tanks.
I would not even want to try to drill those.

Depending on which brand and model you just got, you might be able to search
on eBay or on the web for the proper key for it (or from a payphone reseller).

For wiring, just need the tip and ring of your phone line connected to the proper
terminals inside the payphone. But the phone would not work or react with coins
(although Tuborg had found an article or web site with info about this a while ago).

Update: Here's an example of a potentially useful google find:
http://www.islandregister.com/phones/centurion.html

Good luck,
- Sylvain.

Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron,
1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others.
Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for
one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!

what kind of phone is it? my "bell" or "northern telecom" phone (Centurion model) needed a special "T Key" to open it. I ended up getting it open once I got the cover off, which had a smaller "T Key" type lock and I could see how it worked. I then bent a fork to work as a "T Key" and got my phone open. hooking it up as a house phone was sh!t simple form there.

Trade you the whole thing for a classic arcade marquee.

Terry's first in line if he wants it.

if i were you, i'd keep the payphone exactly as in that pic ..  Not many people have authentic  replica's of when the arcades were in decline & dissarray as  the crack whores & dealers did whatever they wanted inside neglected arcades

If only you had waited another hour Terrance

I've got my own pay phone and I have all the keys and everything to open it up.

If you want a hand bring it to the playoffs on Sunday and I can open everything up for you.

Hmm...

someone that works for bell you say? well i work for bell, plus i'm friends with one of the last remaining payphone repair guys here in Kitchener,
i have the same model, the older Centurian model that's that hideous orange color under the cover.

As for getting the locks open, mine was a gift from a payphone guy in Toronto, and the locks were drilled, the one in the top that takes off the cover, and the coin box one.
once it's drilled, a larger flat head screw driver goes in and can spin the lock to lock or unlock it, it's great.

As for wiring it up to your home phone, super easy, i could always crack mine open and tell you where to attach your wires, everyone loves it, and likes the sound of the bells inside,
when people come to my gameroom, first question is always "does it work"? of course it does!!! i'm a phone guy!!

Let me know if you need any help

Eric

No problem at all, my good man.  Just bring the corresponding phone for me to open with it, and we're in business.

You could also bring some paper and a pencil, and I'll let you trace it, so you can get your own made up.

Just hit one with your vehicle OR tie a chain around one and drag it away. After it's loose, just put it in your vehicle and drive away. That's what been going on around Hamilton these days.... although they are not the classic Centurion phones - these newer sets have card readers.

I'm absolutely joking about stealing them    Flea markets are good spots to find them.
