Just avoid the word "dominant" in your discourse, doesn't go over well here and everything should just be "honky dory".
Good point RAB, I think my choice of words is being taken out of context (understandable). What I meant was, it's the primary language and the one we're most subjected to.
Phil, if it makes you more comfortable to compare me to an American then that's fine. You also need to keep in mind though that I live in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world, and I have done so by choice for many years now. Having come to surround myself and enjoy the many cultural differences around me, I'm simply saying that there's more to Canada than just French and English. To say that Canada is a "bilingual" nation is archaic and absurd. At that point, I have to ask.. am *I* really the one being the "narrow minded American"? English is the universal language as chosen by western culture. It is what it is, a fact is a fact. I'm sorry that you're offended by that but again, but it's simply never going to change.
Hate to bring it back to this, but hey.. if Hitler had won WWII we certainly wouldn't be having this discussion..
I think you're missing the point of my "loving poke" at "those pesky French people". I jest because I think it's silly to take such things so seriously. It's like telling a Newfie joke to a Newfie. They laugh! Why can't we? Life's too short, people. There are far more important things to worry about than the French vs. English debate that's gone on for centuries. Like.. what I'm going to have on my pizza for dinner! <-- get the metaphor here?

and lock it if you must, but I just spent the last 20 minutes typing it before the thread was locked so I'm saying it.

Fin.
Love ya too man. Absolutely, - it is short and sweet this life thing, no point in wasting it with endless and unresolvable ethnocentric debates. We are not that evolved so as to overcome this ancient silliness.

By Hunky -dorey I hope you're not making an off-handed reference to my Eastern European / Ukranian heritage (i.e. bohunk, or hunky) in a derogatory manner? If so, I challenge you to a duel. If not, NEVER MIND.
You see, in North American English, most words have at least three meanings depending on context, gramatical usage or inflection...
...it's a rather complex and subtle language, difficult to devine written / spoken meanings, so sometimes, when we are making a joke, some take offense.

If I follow the logic is what your saying that if the Germans vice the English had defeated the French on the Plains of Abraham there would be no poutine and we would all be eating fries with sauerkraut?

I believe the Dutch/Belgians invented "French" Fries, which are also known as Belgian Fries... and Europeans (Dutch Fry shops being amongst the best, most diverse, including mayonaise and probably sauerkraut) serving fries in cheese all sorts of concoctions. So I wonder if that can't truly be claimed as a Canadian invention.... just the popular name for it.
It's all tied together because North Americans liberating the Dutch in WWII thought they were in France, and so they called the Fries "French" - or so the popular theory goes.
Seriously, raw milk cheese, is that still outlawed in ONTARIO ? Be honest, I can take it.
Please, can one of our Ontario chapter MAACA members (preferably Terry) be so kind as to tell us, in all honesty if they are allowed to sell raw milk cheese in Ontario these days.
And if it is against the law of the land, what is the penalty. I have been waiting for someone to tell me the truth about this since last night. It may actually help me decide if I should make the move across this great and vital "cheesy" divide.

We have cheese curds here, but they're not quite the same. Your "cheese curds" up in the QC are the best for poutine for sure.. nice and salty.
Yes, but dude, this does not clear up the vital question, - Can you get busted in Ontario for selling the smelly fermenting cheese that the french ( and myself, I admit) in general seem to prefer ?

Although I did see some at the Ottawa gas stations while I was there.
Damn ! That may have been a fluke, Ottawa is known for those. Where is Terry when we need him most, he would clear all this up in the time it takes to say "poutine & beer".
